In 1984, after retiring from the United States Air Force, Mike Hurlburt unknowingly laid the foundation for what would become Tampa Turf Services. As property intendent at the base golf course and a nearby estate property, Mike’s dedication and meticulous attention to detail quickly earned the respect of those around him. This led to his first commercial opportunity—maintaining a small bank property on MacDill Air Force Base.
Word of Mike’s high standards and craftsmanship spread, and his business steadily grew. That small bank eventually expanded into Grow Financial, one of the region’s most prominent credit unions, and Tampa Turf Services grew alongside it.
Over the years, the company established itself as a trusted name in Tampa’s commercial landscape, built on a foundation of professionalism, reliability, and superior service.
In 2020, Mike passed the reins to his son, Justin, and shifted his focus to enjoying retirement—spending more time with his wife and grandchildren, fishing all over Florida, and taking long cruises.
As the second-generation owner, Justin instilled a commitment to exceptional work, integrity, and a dedication to excellence that he learned from his upbringing and professional endeavors. Before joining Tampa Turf Services, Justin spent 12 years as Regional Director of Sales and Customer Service at Hapag-Lloyd Container Line in their North American Region, followed by an Executive Customer Service Leader role at Masonite Residential Doors in Tampa. In 2019, Justin transitioned into a managing partner role at Tampa Turf Services, working alongside his father until his retirement, at which point he became the principal owner.
